Photos from Holiday Concert at the Village Square Building on 12/14/2019
Over 40 people showed up for our "reconstituted" holiday sing-a-long and concert. Many of you will remember that we had an annual sing-along held at the Village Square Building for at least 5 years in a row - it was paused for a couple years while renovations on the building took place. The agenda for the evening included the first annual tree lighting at the Veteran's Memorial across the street, songs by the "Unaccompanied Minors" from Burr and Burton Academy, "Twas the Night Before Christmas" poem-reading contest, "A Christmas Cup of Tea" poem reading, 12 Days of Christmas sing-a-long, and drinks and snacks were also served. It was a wonderful evening and if you didn't make it this year, please join us in December 2020.
The building is handicapped accessible.
It was also noted during the opening remarks, that December 14 was "Wreaths Across America" day (WAA) - which evolved out of one family’s efforts
to honor veterans. The Worcester family owns a memorial wreath business and has been making wreath donations to Arlington National Cemetery
for many years. A photograph featuring some of those wreaths went viral in 2005, with tons of donations subsequently coming in, and in 2007, the family established Wreaths Across America as a non-profit charitable organization to support this work. Since then they have raised the awareness
of veterans and their sacrifices. In 2012, the one millionth wreath was laid at Arlington National Cemetery and Congress designated WAA Day
as the 2nd Saturday of December. Annually, there are wreath-laying events in many states at cemeteries and memorials – more than 300 locations participate including overseas cemeteries. An application to include the Danby/Mt. Tabor Veteran's Memorial as an official WAA site is in progress.
